ABC proudly represented Senegal and Africa by and large in the 2nd Afra’Am Festival in Killeen, Texas on August 6, 2011. We thank Mr. ElHadj Aziz Gueye, Head of the Senegal Tourism Office in Atlanta, GA for providing ample brochures and other Senegal informative materials for our numerous visitors during the one-day event. The performance of Sabar and Djembe drumming by the young coed band under the leadership of Souleye Kante (the grandson of the world renown Senegalese master drummer Doudou Ndiaye Rose) kept the crowd asking for more under the joyfuleyes of the proud parents. A real family event indeed.

We had the opportunity to visit with Honorable Timothy Hancock, Mayor of Killeen who took time to come and meet us. Ms. Darlene Golden and Mr. Raymond Gray (Aka) Jay Ray J, the two wonderful organizers selected Senegal and Jamaica as the two countries to be highlighted in the 2011 event. We are still harvesting the fruit of the event through possible visits to Senegal and formal ties between Killeen and Senegal cities as well as Jamaica and Senegal through the very organic global citizen effort.

ABC also provided to the kids a new game of “mbegue”: rolling a bicycle ream by pushing a stick in its grove or from a rope tied on the ream and the stick. A challenge that kept adults trying more than the children who had their time well spent that day…they said!

After several months of close collaboration with the Association of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) for the organization of the 3rd hi-MAPS Conference, ABC/SNF attended the successful event in New Delhi as VIP.

ABC/SNF at Assocham … ABC/SNF was one of the VIP guests (see ribbon on jackets) among very prestigious Ayurveda scientists like Dr. R. C. Saxena charman of Neem Foundation, and business enterprises from the smaller size to the international standard like the Indian herbal cosmetic diva Shaznaz Hussain. During the several months long promotions, ABC/SNF rallied Senegalese and USA interest in the event. ABC/SNF Country Rep. Bassirou Sarr and the nationally renowned phytotherapist Mr. Samba Ndiaye, USA Mr. Francois Gaye, CEO of the NGO Africorp (www.africorp.org) and Dr. Shannon Marquez were also invited as contributors/presenters and session moderators. Due to visa issues, these two delegations did not make it, but were recognized.

ABC/SNF through Dr. D. D. Faye received very honorable appreciation considerations ranging from conference souvenir plaque, traditional candle lightning and flowerd, ribbon cutting along side Mrs. S. Hussain, an official tour of the more 50 beautifully decorated and supplied exhibition booths, to addressing the Conference at the opening ceremony followed by a plenary speaking session and moderating sessions. Dr. Faye also chaired sessions during the 2-day event.

Dr. Faye’s contribution focused on Strengthening Senegal and India Collaborative Effort Through Business Opportunity in the Medicinal Plant Industry. This tentative effort was largely inspired by the 2008 India-Africa Declaration ratified by fourteen (14) African countries: Algeria, Burkina Faso, the D.R. Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The Declaration heralds and encourages India-Africa collaborative effort for development. For more, visit the Delhi Declaration India Africa Framework for Cooperation: [doc] delhi declaration – www.africa-union.org

FORUM SUMMIT 2008. New Delhi, 8-9 April 2008. DELHI DECLARATION. 1. We, the Heads of State and Government and Heads of Delegation of Africa, …
www.africa-union.org/…/2008/…/DELHI%20DECLARATION%20%20-%20ENGLISH%20-%20FINAL%20VERSION.doc

Assocham 3rd hi-MAPS event helped also to secure more scientific/technological and business opportunities to work on: R&D on Senegal indigenous plants, technology transfer, international conferences and trade missions. Assocham via ther eminent CEO and Conference Manager Sri S. S. Chawla echoed Dr. Faye’s practical approach stressing the long overdue necessity to foster and bring about the fruitful provisions of the Delhi 2008 Declaration by first initiating trade and exploratory missions between India and Africa.

At the present, ABC/SNF is working on the next India trip as a co-host agency in the organization of the October 20-22 2nd Global Summit on Sustainability (www.gloss2011.com) at Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India under the leadership of Dr. R. N. Pati. Dr. Faye has been elevated as the Director in Chief of the International Advisory Committee and the Africa and USA delegation leader. As a recent African Scientific Institute (ASI) Fellow, Dr. Faye has solicited the collaborative effort with this prestigious USA/Africa entity to lend hand on the GLOSS2011 and the Washington World Summit events. As such, Mr. Lee O. Cherry, founder of the ASI was invited and accepted as Chairman of the International Advisory Committee. Last, but not least, ABC/SNF has drummed up awareness and support for its upcoming World Neem and other Ethno Botanical Plants Summit to be held in the first quarter of 2012 in Washington DC. More update will be provided on this. Considering its broad and rich network of “super star” scientists and influence, ASI was also invited to partake to this world event.

His subject will be:
The State of neem (Azadirachta indica, Juss) in Africa with specific reference to Senegal in meeting the UN Millennium Goals. Dr. Faye will also be talking about the ABC Malaria Prevention, and other ABC activities in Africa.

The conference will be open to the public too.  Just go on campus, find the location, enter to listen, mingle and network. However, if anyone is interested in the banquets and other more formal activities, he/she needs to register (I think $65 for the whole three day conference. Not bad!!!!). There is a link on the site above to register. I think this will be a very good opportunity to learn about the neem and for the potential business prospects for this untaped gold mine, it would be a good intro.

Some of Senegal’s environment is doing quite well, as evidenced by the size of the prawn that Dr. Faye is holding.
